RADIO FREQUENCY ABLATION
The Venefit Procedure (radiofrequency ablation) is a minimally invasive procedure performed on an outpatient basis. The Saint John Vein Clinic uses this procedure because it has been clinically proven to be an effective means of treating varicose veins. Using ultrasound, Dr. Omotoso will position the closure catheter into the diseased vein through a small opening in the skin. The tiny catheter powered by radiofrequency (RF) energy delivers heat to the vein wall. As the thermal energy is delivered, the vein wall shrinks and the vein is sealed closed.

Once the diseased vein is closed, blood is re-routed to other healthy veins. Following the procedure, Dr. Omotoso will place a small bandage over the insertion site, additional compression may be provided to aid healing.
Compared with surgical options like ligation and vein stripping, radiofrequency ablation results in less pain and quicker recovery time. The procedure is done in the office and patients typically return to their normal activities within a day.
